The Highlander Hotel is situated in the small village of Newtonmore in the heart of the Scottish Highlands. Nestled in the famous Spey Valley amid the splendour of the Monadhliath and Grampian Mountains, Newtonmore is a popular holiday destination and is well known for its Hogmanay celebrations. The hotel is also the perfect location for the outdoor enthusiast whether you enjoy snowsports, cycling or a gentle ramble.
As the hotel is only 6 miles from the geographic centre of Scotland it offers the ideal base to tour much of Northern Scotland and is a great stop before heading up to the start of the North Coast 500.

Set in the stunning Cairngorms National Park, the park is open seven days a week and offers breathtaking views. You will have the chance to see a range of native animals like the Scottish wildcat, as well as species from around the world including snow leopards, Amur tigers, Japanese macaques and Scotland’s only polar bears.

Loch Insh sits in the foothills of the Cairngorm Mountains, at the lower end of Glen Feshie.
Here, the River Spey widens to form Loch Insh, creating the perfect setting for you to learn some or all of a wide range of sports in safety.

For golfers, there are three golf courses within a 15-mile radius of the Highlander, the closest being Newtonmore, which is just a few minutes from the hotel. The course follows the natural contours of the River Spey and floodplain, and is mostly easy walking parkland and is very popular with left-handers.

Visit Newtonmore’s Wildcat Centre for information about local walks and attractions. Follow all or part of the 10km Wildcat Trail, which circles the village through woodland, moorland and riverside scenery, with views of the surrounding mountains. The route includes varied terrain and some short, steep sections.
For a family activity, try the separate Wildcat Experience and search for colourful, life-size model wildcats hidden around Newtonmore.
