The Highlander Hotel is situated in the small village of Newtonmore in the heart of the Scottish Highlands. Nestled in the famous Spey Valley amid the splendour of the Monadhliath and Grampian Mountains, Newtonmore is a popular holiday destination and is well known for its Hogmanay celebrations. The hotel is also the perfect location for the outdoor enthusiast whether you enjoy snowsports, cycling or a gentle ramble.
As the hotel is only 6 miles from the geographic centre of Scotland it offers the ideal base to tour much of Northern Scotland and is a great stop before heading up to the start of the North Coast 500.
Step back in time and experience life in the Highlands from 1700s to the 1950s. There is over 35 historical buildings onsite for you to explore and discover how people in the Highlands lived, worked, went to school, enjoyed their leisure time.

Set in the stunning Cairngorms National Park, the park is open seven days a week and offers breathtaking views. You will have the chance to see a range of native animals like the Scottish wildcat, as well as species from around the world including snow leopards, Amur tigers, Japanese macaques and Scotland’s only polar bears.

Dalwhinnie Distillery is home to a famous Highland Single Malt Whisky renowned for its gentle flavours accentuated with notes of heather honey, citrus, vanilla and sweet malt.

Skiers and snowboarders will find plenty to get their teeth into in the form of nearby Cairngorm Mountain, with equipment hire available during the winter months through our partners ‘Ski Norwest’.

Cairngorm Mountain – Scotland’s Favourite Mountain Destination
Loch Insh sits in the foothills of the Cairngorm Mountains, at the lower end of Glen Feshie.
Here, the River Spey widens to form Loch Insh, creating the perfect setting for you to learn some or all of our wide range of sports in safety.

Mountain bikers will be in their element at Laggan Wolftrax, a 35km single track that’s well maintained and available all year round.

For Golfers, there are three golf courses within a 15 mile radius of the Highlander, the closest being Newtonmore which is just a few minutes from the hotel. The course follows the natural contours of the River Spey and floodplain and is mostly easy walking parkland and is very popular with left-handers.
