Seven Sisters country park offers an array of outdoor experiences. Sat snugly against the coastline and expanding inland, there is ample opportunity to cycle, kayak, paddle board, walk, stargaze, spot wildlife or enjoy a number of accessible trails.
The infamous chalk cliffs have features in multiple Hollywood films such as Harry Potter and Robin Hood. The chalk was formed under a sea that existed up to 100 million years ago and is the remains of minute sea creatures from that era and eons of deposits.
The Seven Sisters cliffs form part of the Sussex Heritage Coast which is home to burial sites, defensive structures, abandoned villages and ancient navigation aids. The most visible site is the Neolithic burial mound near Exceat which was a communal burial area for the earliest farming communities.
There are such diverse habitats at Seven Sisters such as fresh water ponds, saltwater ponds, ditches and the Cuckmere river. A large variety of birds frequent the area which changes by season, a big plus for any bird enthusiasts!
There are plenty of trails and footpaths to follow when you visit, you can pick up trail maps from the visitor centre. Your dog is also welcome to join you to take in the landscape providing they are well behaved and controlled.
The South Downs Way National Trail is 100 miles long from Eastbourne through the country park to Winchester.
You can enjoy 14 miles of the trail by starting from Seaford beach past the coast guard cottages, through the Seven Sisters country park, the Belle Tout and Beachy Head lighthouses and finishing up in Eastbourne where you can rest up at the Burlington hotel before enjoying the seaside! This trail takes 7 hours with breaks. Alternatively you can travel 20 minutes by car from Eastbourne to the Seven Sisters cliffs and explore the park for the day.
Starting from the visitor centre in the park, it is approximately 5 miles to Beachy Head which will take 3-4 hours. Or if you plan to visit the Coastguard cottages it will take 40 minutes to walk the 1.5 miles. If you wish to spend a few hours on the beach it is a short half an hour walk from the center covering a mile.
