Busy high street in Keswick

Keswick is well known for its thriving food scene, with some incredible bars, cafes and restaurants to be found in and around the town. Whether you’re looking for comforting pub grub, indulgent baked treats or refined high-end dining, you’ll have no trouble finding just the thing in Keswick. Take a look at some of our team’s favourite spots for lunch to see what Keswick has in store.

Fellpack

Fellpack is one of Keswick’s favourite bistros, and it deserves all the praise it gets. This warm, comforting restaurant is the place to go for classics with a twist.

We love seeing what the chefs of Fellpack come up with, from a fresh take on neeps and haggis to their famed duck ramen. Vegetarians and vegans are well catered for here, and if you’re bringing a four-legged friend you’ll be able to dine outside in a small heated area.

The Lakeland Sandwich Shop

A great sandwich is worth travelling for, so make your way to the Lakeland Sandwich Shop of Kewsick to find out what all the fuss is about.

This traditional sandwich shop serves almost any sandwich you can possibly think of. Dietary requirements are no problem, with vegan, vegetarian and gluten free options are all available on request. There are some great daily specials to look out for too.

Kat’s Kitchen

If it’s vegetarian or vegan food you’re after, we can’t recommend Kat’s Kitchen highly enough. This Keswick gem is 100% plant-based, and specialises in homemade vegan food that’s all cooked from scratch by the talented team.

There are gluten free options available at Kat’s Kitchen, and the cakes are not to be missed. There’s also a retail shop where you can pick up some of the cafe’s best-loved ingredients to take home.

The Square Orange Cafe Bar

Dogs are very welcome at the Square Orange Cafe Bar, a quirky Keswick bar that’s well-known for its indulgent menu. Known locally as the “Squorange”, this cafe doesn’t take bookings, but if you’re lucky enough to grab a table here you’ll be in for a real treat. Their stone-baked pizzas are possibly the best in Keswick, and there’s a brilliant speciality coffee menu to work your way through too.

Little Chamonix Cafe

The quirky and quaint Little Chamonix Cafe is another of our favourite spots in Keswick. Well known for its homemade cakes, the Little Chamonix is the place to go for a real sugar hit!

Look out for some tempting vegan specials; the little Little Chamonix team have got vegan baking down to a fine art. Dogs are also allowed within the cafe. There are even dog biscuits on the menu just for them.

The Chalet Tearooms & Restaurant

You’ll find the beautiful Chalet Tearooms and Restaurant on the shores of Derwentwater. We highly recommend taking a day to explore this stunning area, and of course that day should include time for a bite to eat at The Chalet!

This traditional tea room serves a varied menu, including crowd pleasers like American buttermilk pancakes alongside hot ciabattas, bacon buttys and stonebaked pizzas. Vegetarian and vegan options are also available.

Dogs are welcome during the day, the Chalet provides towels to dry off wet dogs and the underfloor heating always goes down well with tired pooches.

Jasper’s Coffee House

Dog-friendly coffee shops don’t get much better than Jasper’s. This coffee house is actually named after a treasured pet, and the menu features plenty of doggie treats to keep four-legged friends happy.

Try a coffee by local roaster Carvetii, and indulge in some tempting dishes from the menu. We love the cakes here. The sausage rolls always go down a storm too. Look out for vegetarian and vegan specials at Jasper’s, as well as staples like the vegan sandwich or the ever-popular smashed avocado on toast.

Where to Stay

Explore all that Keswick has to offer from cosy accommodation in the heart of the action. The Derwentwater Hotel is the perfect place to stay during your Keswick break, offering twin, double, and family rooms with free parking and WiFi.

At the Derwentwater Hotel, you’ll find everything you need for a comfortable stay in the Lake District. There’s an in-house restaurant serving all the traditional classics, as well as breakfasts that’ll fuel you for a day’s exploring. And the Derwent bar and conservatory offers the ideal place to unwind after a day out enjoying all that the local area has to offer.

The Derwentwater is proud to be pet-friendly. The hotel welcomes pets in some rooms, just mention that you’re planning to bring your pooch when you make your booking.
