The River Wear in North East England rises in the Pennines and flows eastwards, mostly through County Durham, to the North Sea in the City of Sunderland. At 60 miles (97km) long, it is one of the regions longest rivers.

Angel of the North 7 miles

 

The Angel of the North is one of the most iconic public art pieces in England.   The Angel dominates the skyline, towering above all those who come to see it and has become a symbol of home for many Geordies. Made from 200 tonnes of steel, it has a wingspan of 54 metres and a red-brown colour that comes from the weathering steel which can withstand winds of more than 100 miles per hour.
