There is a whole host of interesting things to do and places to visit in and around the beautiful and historic town of Stamford, including:<\/p>\n

Burghley House<\/strong>
\nRegarded by many as the finest Elizabethan House in England, Burghley House was built in the 16th Century by William Cecil, the first Lord Burghley. This stunning house, extensive grounds and sculpture park are open to the public over the summer period.<\/p>\n

Burghley Horse Trials<\/strong>
\nBurghley has been holding the Autumn 3-day event horse trials on its estate since 1961<\/p>\n

All Saints Brewery<\/strong>
\nOriginally established in 1825 as a steam-operated brewery, it was restored in the late 1990’s to produce specialised fruit beers from a micro-brewery known as Melbourn Bros.<\/p>\n

All Saints Church<\/strong>
\nDating back to the 13th Century and rebuilt by the Brownes after suffering damage during the Wars of the Roses.<\/p>\n

Browne\u2019s Hospital<\/strong>
\nThe wealthy wool merchant, William Browne, and his wife, Margaret, founded this almshouse in the late 15th Century. Despite extensive 19th Century restorations much of the medieval stained glass, original furniture and archives remain.<\/p>\n

Mid Lent Fair<\/strong>
\nThe Mid-Lent Fair appears to have been held for over a thousand years, dating back to King Edgar\u2019s days. Nowadays it is a huge funfair which fills most of the town centre from Bath Row to the High Street. It is held on the Monday following Mothering Sunday and runs until the following Saturday.<\/p>\n

Stamford Meadows<\/strong>
\nOriginally called the Water Meadows, the Meadows is pleasant place to picnic, recreate, watch or feed the birds.<\/p>\n

Stamford Shakespeare<\/strong> Festival at Tolethorpe Hall
\nA purpose-built auditorium in the landscaped grounds of the Elizabethan Tolethorpe Hall near Bourne provides the setting for the annual summer season of outdoor Shakespeare.<\/p>\n

The Nene Valley Railway<\/strong>
\nOperating since 1977 in its present form, the line once formed part of an important cross-country route from East Anglia to the Midlands.<\/p>\n

The Barnsdale Gardens<\/strong>
\nThe Barnsdale Gardens comprise 37 individual gardens and features that all blend together by linking borders into one 8 acre garden.<\/p>\n

\nA little further away, you can visit Prebendal Manor House, Grimsthorpe Castle, Elton Hall, Peterborough Cathedral and of course the beautiful Rutland Water.<\/p>\n <\/article>\n \n
